I'll Miss The Stubs

Movie, concert, museum, exhibit, theme park, factory tour, attraction, TV taping, play, sporting event, opera, weird rave and so on. I want proof I was there. The ticket stub is the proof.

These collages started when I was deciding what to do with my lifelong collection of ticket stubs. Bored one night in a new apartment in 2002, I grabbed a glue stick and my collection to paste together a snapshot of my life. In 20 years, I’ve created 6 collages while refining my technique and redefining again and again what constitutes a stub. The stubs themselves are not chronological but the collages are.

While I’m technically in favor of switching to more environmentally-friendly paperless tickets, I’m sad that my collection will ultimately die in favor of digital barcodes. Printing “paperless” tickets is cheating. I'll miss the stubs.

*Note:
These are 6 collages, each 16" x 20", created between 2002 and 2022.

My interpretation of Dear Future
Dear Future, You won't have enough ticket stubs and that makes me sad. After a lifetime of collecting and arranging tickets stubs, the future is looking more and more stubless in favor of digital codes. These 6 collages are both my love-letter to the art of the ticket stub and a snapshot of my life.
