Preserved Palm Reading

Many years ago, during a trip to Bolivia, I had my future predicted in coca leaves. Today I have no recollection of what I was told but it stands as an interesting experience and a strong memory. In my research I have been curious about exploring the supernatural; clairvoyance, tarot card reading, palmistry and future predictions.
I had my future predicted by a palm reader. After the session I squeezed a piece of soft wax in my right hand and made a model of my handprint.
By using the technique cire perdue the model was made into a bronze cast and has been patinated in a dark color in order to add the bronze cast contrast and highlight the fingerprints and fine lines.

My interpretation of Dear Future
Past, present and future. A desire for preservation and change This piece is a greeting to my future self. A palm reading translated into a physical object created in a material that lasts for the rest of my life. For me it’s a daily reminder on how to check in on my life situation; what do I expect from life, where do I look for new inspiration and how do I find new ways when I find myself being stuck.
