{Absolute Value}

“We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future.”

– Marshall McLuhan

The artist used to create the collage, now the algorithm collages for us.
The viewer knows not the tone of what they are being served, only the absolute value plotted in a negative or positive direction. Unless the viewer approaches the algorithm with the same scrutiny they reserve for art, the algorithm - not the viewer, will determine the cultural landscape.

My interpretation of Dear Future
Absolute value is an Interpretation of Mandy Kahn’s Essay “Living in the Mess.” Instead of focusing on the creative prowess of people making collages it focuses on the automation that the algorithms collage for us. It’s the feeling, tension and depth that we take for granted when served content through algorithms without knowing the tone in which it was given to us.
